After winning game 7 on the road in Toronto, the Nets solidified a spot in the second round vs the defending champion Miami Heat. Many teams would be scared to face Miami but Brooklyn isn’t shaking in their boots in the least.
Over the course of the regular season these teams faced off four times and the Nets won all four. Most notably was the win on the last play of the game when rookie Mason Plumlee blocked LeBron James at the rim to take the game. Brooklyn has both the youth and leadership to conquer the Heat. Paul Pierce has been revived this postseason winning two games for Brooklyn in their series against Toronto. Taking most of the work is Joe Johnson who without a doubt is having the best year of his career. The key is can Deron Williams stay consistent? The Nets can’t afford for him to be hot one game and ice cold the next if they want a chance to win the series.
Many people picked Miami to win the title this year for the third year straight. However, Brooklyn has clearly found their achilles heal. They play hard nose defense and don’t allow you to get in the paint with Garnett, Plumee and Blatche. Yes they’re only regular season match-ups but sweeping the two time defending champs is saying something. We’ll see if the Nets can grind out a series win over the big three and the rest of the Heat.
